POST 1

    AN ODE TO A MOTHER

This is the story of probably every mother in the universe.

Ever since a life is created in a mother’s womb, her emotional clock ticks away in frenzy when she plans, broods, worries, dreams of the future of this miracle being.  She foresees this son who is always there to wrap her in a bear hug, to make all her anxieties vanish.  She foresees this little girl she can doll up and visualizes her pouring out her crazy secrets to her.  She will read up on all types of literature on child-rearing.

Every ensuing day after that is a battle of emotions.  She is excused if she is caught looking worriedly for signs of breath in the gentle heaving of the tiny chest ….even as she looks around guiltily to see if she is caught in this act of foolishness!

  She puts aside her feelings, her aspirations, her dreams, so much so, her life itself, to be able to make their path free of thorns.  In the process, she fails to acknowledge the bruises she encounters in her endeavors.
No sacrifice is too big for her!!  You will catch her shedding tears unnoticed by anyone even when she puts up a brave front for her children.  She is a lioness ready to defend her brood and rip apart any threat to them.  She will not think twice before she places herself before the devil himself to shield her child.  She will go down on her knees and pray that every little pain of theirs is transferred to her and thus relieve them of theirs.

She will cry unashamedly when it’s time to send her brood alone into the big, bad world to make their lives, although she is the one who teaches them to be strong and to stand up in the face of adversaries.  She will stress the need to be focused and remain unmoved by life’s miseries, to be independent and strong, even as she secretly weeps in her heart at their going away.

 If only they didn’t have to leave!!!

But she has to let go.  She watches with a heavy heart each time they fall and hurt themselves but cheers them anyway, “common sport, get up …. You are a big guy!”

She also watches them anxiously grow wings that slowly take them away from her farther and farther. She stings with hurt when they are stung and puffs up with pride at every little endeavor of theirs.  This after all is her effort!!

In between come spells of nagging feelings of ;

“Have I gone wrong somewhere…?”

  "Did I bring them up to be a good human being? – Loving, caring and sensitive to other’s feelings?      To respect and reach out to those in need of help?  To never cause hurt through words or deeds?  To     be the people you taught them to be? ….. "

  Just then I hear a voice beside me, “Mom ………”

….. And the clouds drift away hastily, streaming brilliant sunlight that blinds my eyes and dries up the tears.

             Life is beautiful again!!!!!

 Do you have similar feelings you could share ??? Do you have a mom you think is awesome ??
